Finkenwerder Innovation Park

A fresh breeze of innovation: the Finkenwerder Innovation Park, which is largely developed at this point, has a strong focus on research and development in aviation, with Airbus serving as an anchor company, as well as two institutes of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and number of facilities of the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH).

The Center of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL TechCenter) acts as both incubator and technology centre. Together with Airbus, it constitutes the heart of the Finkenwerder Innovation Park, which focuses on advancing Hamburg’s aviation industry and strengthening cooperation with the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Facilitating research and development under one roof and along the aircraft value chain, the Finkenwerder Innovation Park promotes networking and collaboration through the joint use of infrastructure and close geographical proximity.

ZAL has more than 26,000 square metres of halls as well as lab, office and research infrastructure available to research institutions, founders and established companies; a further extension of the building is already in the planning stage.

In addition to the two newly established DLR institutes (one for maintenance and modification, and one for system architectures in aviation), the Technology Centre Hamburg- Finkenwerder (THF), the two Airbus Technology Parks (ATP 1 and ATP 2) and the Airbus BizLab provide an established infrastructure for local stakeholders. Numerous other tenants from industry and science utilise and strengthen the local network, which means that the immediate environment is almost reaching full capacity.
