Bergedorf Innovation Park

Ample space for future development: the plots at the Bergedorf Research and Innovation Park are being developed with a long-term perspective and are available to suitable businesses seeking to locate in Hamburg. Major players here include the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences with its Life Sciences Campus and Energy Campus, the Fraunhofer IAPT as well as the test stand of the Fraunhofer IWES, all of which serve as local anchor institutions.

With several renowned scientific institutions, the Bergedorf site in the area around Schleusengraben provides excellent conditions for innovative companies: the Fraunhofer Institute for Additive Production Technologies IAPT (formerly Laser Zentrum Nord) helps companies translate innovative optical technologies from research into industrial practice, and the local Energy Campus is dedicated to testing new concepts in the area of energy storage using a wind and smart grid laboratory. What is more, Bergedorf is home to a test stand for large wind turbines.

Operated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology IWES, it is the world’s only test stand of its kind. In the near future, the Bergedorf location will also accommodate a new application centre of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicon Technology ISIT.

To ensure sufficient leeway for future development, a large R&D plot adjacent to Schleusengraben will also be made available, providing ample room for intelligent, innovative logistics concepts the areas of 3D printing, intralogistics and distribution, and allowing stakeholders to draw on expertise from the local Fraunhofer IAPT as well as the Energy Campus.

In addition, an incubator and a technology centre are scheduled to be established to bridge the gap between research institutes and companies wishing to locate here by providing relevant support services.
